Daniel Penny: beyond not-guilty

The Lou Perez Podcast with Kirsten Fleming

I miss the days when people had real faces.” - Kirsten Fleming, features columnist at The New York Post and my guest on the pod.

We discuss Kirsten’s coverage of the Daniel Penny trial from both inside and outside the courtroom and the many details of the case that commenters (at least online) are leaving out.

Kirsten and I both have subway horror stories. Back in November of this year, I told one of mine in response to this post on X:

I've had situations on public transportation that I'm happy my children weren't around for. One time on the subway I had to stop some scumbag from lighting a plastic bag on fire next to my pregnant wife. No one else seemed to have a problem with the would-be methadone-copping arsonist. One of the reasons we were happy to move out of the city—and I'm a lifelong New Yorker—was that I knew that if I were not around and my wife ever had to deal with a skell—god forbid with our children in tow—she couldn't count on a fellow New Yorker to come to her rescue. More likely, the public would come to the piece-of-shit's defense. l…m…a…o…

Join me for three days of comedy at the Williams Center in Rutherford, NJ.

Our conversation is not all doom and gloom. We took some time to celebrate the legacy of Saint John’s legendary coach Lou Carnesecca, who will forever live in my heart as Coach Drymeat.

And if you’re wondering what the inciting incident was that made Kirsten and I fans of one another, well here you go.
